2019 Volunteer Positions:
As a Sector Leader, you will be responsible for the oversight of a specific portion of the Open Streets route (e.g. ensuring volunteers are doing their jobs, ensuring barricades are in correct positions, and that "soft close" intersections are operating properly). You will be playing a key role, reporting into Open Streets TO leadership through radio communication. This position is exclusive to volunteers over the age of 18 and will require a brief interview. A mobility device, such as a bicycle, is necessary.
Area Captains play a key role in managing both Ambassadors and Intersection Monitors (please see descriptions below) within a specific portion of the Open Streets route. You will be responsible for things such as receiving volunteers, giving out resources (e.g. signs, safety equipment, water, tee shirts) and oversight of all volunteers within your "area", as it were. This position is exclusive to volunteers over the age of 18 and will require a brief interview. A mobility device, such as a bicycle, is necessary.
Route Rockets work with Sector Leaders to ensure all volunteers within a portion of the route receive breaks and the resources they need to do their job. Route Rockets will help with set-up and take-down. Route Rockets are required to be able to move through a 2km portion of the route. A mobility device, such as a bicycle, is necessary.
Ambassadors are responsible for looking after a hard-closed street to ensure that barricades are not moved and that participants entering the Open Streets route are welcomed. Ambassadors are the cheerleaders of Open Streets. You make the route fun! Bring some music, a chair, a kiddie pool! Get creative, make your street the best place to pass by at Open Streets. (If you have a group that would like to help out at Open Streets - this is a great group activity. Contact us for more information about group volunteering)
Intersection Monitors help to manage Open Streets participants at intersections that are open to traffic along the route. This is a great volunteer position for groups. Bring some music and make this space your own. Use the opportunity to increase the visibility of your group and efforts. Make this space fun and exciting for participants.
